The Scalabrini Village at Allambie Heights will open its doors to members of the community who are keen to learn basic Italian from Wednesday, August 5, when FREE weekly Italian-language lessons will be offered from 3pm – 4pm.
To be led by local residents of Scalabrini Village – a not-for-profit residential aged care provider with a vast number of Italian-heritage residents – the weekly lessons will be taught in English and be open to all ages.
The lessons are part of Scalabrini Village’s Person Centred Care approach, which is focused on benefiting Scalabrini’s residents by positively tapping into their unique qualities and therefore providing a strong sense of purpose post-retirement, as well as benefiting the wider communities in which Scalabrini operates by facilitating a sharing of its residents’ unique skills and life-experiences with others.
The Italian-language lessons at Scalabrini Village, Allambie Heights stemmed from one particular resident’s passion for teaching Italian to Scalabrini staff.
Cecilia Roncolato, who is aged in her 70s, attracted such a significant number of Scalabrini staff to her impromptu Italian-language lessons that word-of-mouth quickly spread throughout Allambie Heights and local members of the public requested to join Cecilia’s classes.
Cecilia’s weekly lessons cover basic Italian language, grammar and pronunciation as well as Italian history.
To book to attend a lesson, phone Scalabrini Village Allambie Heights: on 02 8977 1600. Bookings are essential and places are limited.
