Using the radio, you can have a game in which everyone tries to be the first to call out the name of the artist when a song starts.

Then change the station, so you don't have to wait through a whole song to continue the contest.

In one car radio game, each player chooses a word.

The player whose word is spoken (or sung) first on the radio is the winner.

 Alphabet_Car_Games

One classic travel game involves the alphabet.

Try to spot something starting with an "a", and be the first to call it out ("apple tree!").

Since the Qs and Xes are difficult, they can be skipped.

The player with the most "firsts," is the winner.

Candy_CAne_Vase

Here's an easy Christmas craft that makes a lovely gift for kids to make for their teacher, mom, grandparents or friends.

Craft Supplies:

  • 30 to 40 candy canes

  • strong rubber band

  • clean tin can

  • evergreen trimmings - cedar, pine, spruce, juniper or holly

  • wire-edged ribbon

Instructions:

1. Place a strong rubber band around the tin can, approximately half way down from the top.

2. Begin inserting wrapped candy canes into the rubber band so the hooked part of the cane faces outward. As you proceed around the can, you might find that the candy canes tend to fall to one side. Just keep straightening them as you work - once the last candy cane is in place, you should find that the candy canes will stay upright on their own. If not, add another rubber band, fairly close to the first one, to keep everything in place.

3. Tie a wire-edged ribbon over the rubber band and make a nice bow. If you like, you can cut the ends of the ribbon on a slant, or in a vee shape, for a nice touch.

4. Add sprigs of fresh evergreen trimmings to the tin can and your Christmas candy cane vane is complete.

Making_Paper_Planes

Quick and easy paper planes for you to make and fly! Use the links below to try them out. They start simple, and get more complicated as you go further down. Why not build them all and see which flies the best!

You will need:

A4 sheets of paper

Scissors

and maybe a paper clip or two...

The Helicopter

1. Take a strip of paper and cut it down the middle to just short of halfway. Bend the two flaps outwards.

2. Make two small folds in the outer end to give it downwards stability. The amount of spin and how fast it drops depends on the angle of the flaps.

3. Launch by dropping the helicopter from as high as possible.

The Classic Dart

1. Fold the paper in half lengthways, crease and open out.

2. Take the two front corners and fold to meet the centre crease.

3. Fold the edges made by step 2 to meet the centre crease. Try to keep the nose point sharp.

4. Fold the outside edges together and re-flatten the first crease.

5. Fold the outside edge down to meet the centre crease, turn the plane over and repeat on the other side.

6. Open the wings up to about 90° and hold underneath to throw. To get the best results throw the dart firmly at a slightly upward angle.

The Ultimate

1. Lay the A4 sheet of paper in front of you portrait way up.

2. Take the 2 top corners and fold into the middle so they meet and at the same time make a point at the top (arrow shape), flatten the folds.

3. Fold the point back on itself towards you the length of the arrow point and press the fold.

4. Fold the point that is facing you over so that it is pointing away from you (about an inch) and press, this will make a small triangle.

5. Take one of the corners furthest away and bring it to the centre of the small triangle, tucking it underneath, press the fold. Do the same on the other side. 6. Fold the paper in half with the tucked in folds on the outside. Press the fold.

7. Take 1 diagonal fold and fold it to meet the long straight edge. Press the fold. Turn the plane over and do the same on the other side.

8. There will be a perfect place to hold your plane underneath where the tucked in paper is, hold it between your thumb and finger, launch your plane and watch it fly.

9. Make them with different coloured papers and race with your friends, or just have fun seeing which colour flies the furthest.

Paper Mache Piggy Bank

Another great projcet that you can do with the grownup and a bit on your own making your own piggy bank can be fun as you give it your mark and style. Remember to get the grownups to help with the sharp bits.

Materials

  • An egg carton or egg tray

  • A balloon

  • paper and glue for paper mache

  • Pink paper or pink paint

  • cellotape or masking tape

Steps

  • First blow up the balloon to the size of the piggy bank you want.

  • Tear up paper into strips for paper mache

  • Place the Glue in a bowl with some water so you can dip the paper in

  • Paper mache over the balloon with strips of paper and glue and let dry (it may take a few layers)

  • Once it has dried and the paper mache is thick enough, pop the balloon and get help to remove it.

  • Next, get the grown ups cut out 6 egg cups from the egg carton or egg tray. Tape 4 of these on as feet and one on as a snout.

  • Get them to Cut the last one in half vertically, and tape the two halves on as ears. Now add a layer of paper mache over the legs, snout and ears.

  • For the final layer, either coat it in pink paper, or paint it with pink paint. A pipe cleaner makes a fine curled tail.

  • Once the final product is dried, get a grown up to use a sharp knife to cut a slot in the pigs back.
